Natchez Under the Hill Traditional

Banjo-Cathy; guitar and bones-Dave; fiddle-Paul Though its roots are probably the British tune, "The Rose Tree," this is one of the oldest "old-time" American fiddle tunes. First published in 1839, it is probably the source for "Old Zip Coon," and "Turkey in the Straw." Its Mississippi town namesake looms large and notorious in riverlore for wild, lawless indulgence without restraint among rivermen who congregated there and worried the citizens abiding on the Bluff above.
